Dappled Cities Return Downunder by Lucas Smeets Arts & Entertainment

D

appled Cities Fly return to Australia for their first string of headline dates since relocating to New York City in mid-2007. Joining Dappled Cities on this unmissable February run are Sparkadia and The Seabellies. Having toured the US relent- lessly over the past year the band are in tip-top shape and expect to premiere a truckload of brand new tracks that have been written for their forthcoming album. The tour will include two consecu- tive nights at Sydney’s Oxford Arts centre on February 13 (with Des Miller) and 14 with tickets on sale at www.moshtix.com.au and at moshtix outlets. The Beast managed to get the boys from Sparkadia to ask the boys from Dappled Cities five very personal questions...

When you went to L.A. did you meet Slash? Slash was actually on our flight from Sydney to LA.

Slash certainly looked like Slash, but we were slightly dubious as to his authenticity. Being five fully trained impersonators ourselves, we know what to look for in such a Sasquatch. LA is full of sasquatches.

Does nature excite you? Person- ally I get excited by nature, but only through a degree of separa- tion. For example, a photograph of a beetle excites me. Footage of a great white eating a seal excites me. However, touching nature in the flesh renders me remarkably flaccid. Asphalt is a suitable, reliable and safe muse for me.

Did you get to see Delaware on your recent US tours? We drove through Delaware several times. It’s about as interesting as a raw brick.

Do you think that if Goran Ivani-

sevic was to challenge Michael Chang tomorrow in a five set ten- nis match on a clay court in Mar- rickville, it would be a runaway victory to Goran? This is a strange question. I am avid follower of in- ternational tennis but this is simply too close to call. Perhaps, with the condition that I would never have to ponder upon such hypo- theticals ever again, I’d put all my money Goran. The question hints that you know more than I do.

What will be the best thing about touring with Sparkadia? Sparka- dia are certainly a powerhouse to be reckoned with, and being in their musical presence will no doubt be a universe-shifting experience. I quite enjoy feeling euphoric and am looking forward to it.
