Waverley Council Mesage from the Mayor

Waverley is lucky to have three of the best beaches in the world as well as a number of beautiful parks. Millions of people visit our area each year, particularly over summer.

More people means more waste. It costs over a million dollars each year to keep Bondi Beach looking its best.

I’m amazed at how much rubbish people leave behind. Council’s Beach Rake collects on average 16 cubic metres of rubbish from Bondi, Bronte and Tamarama beaches each week.

We collect over 540 cubic metres of rubbish

from our beaches and nearby parks each week – that’s 1200 extra large bins every week!

Council does a great job within its means to keep our beaches and parks in top shape. We have additional crews and extended clean up hours at Bondi and Bronte beaches until April to help ensure they are rubbish-free.

I hope you have fun in Waverley over summer, but please dispose of your waste carefully and appropriately.

SOUTH AMERICAN FESTIVAL

As the temperatures soar, so does the entertainment. The 28th South American Festival is on Sunday 17 February at the Bondi Pavilion.

There’s plenty to see and do – you can watch Sydney’s best Latino acts or learn a few moves for the dance fl oor. There will be children’s activities, exhibitions, workshops and plenty of food stalls. The fi nale includes Brazilian drumming, costume, dance and capoeira.

Tickets available at the door, $20/$15 concession, children under 12 free.

BEACH RUNER

It’s convenient, it’s cheap – Council’s ‘Beach Runner’ bus service has proven popular with thousands of beachgoers.

This handy summer bus route connects Bondi, Tamarama, Bronte and Coogee beaches, taking away the need to go via Bondi Junction.

The service runs roughly every half hour from Bondi and Coogee between 9am and 8pm on weekends and public holidays.

Remember, less time on the road means more time in the surf, there’s even room for your surfboard!

Visit www.waverley.nsw.gov.au or call 9369 8000 to check the timetable.
