NIGHT LIFE There are various places to go to at night. Around Christmas and Carnival, there is plenty of music and dancing everywhere. Hotels usually offer some form of evening entertainment. SHOPPING Kingstown comprises 12 small blocks, easy to walk and perfect for browsing. Shops and stores range from simple to sophisticated, selling local crafts, cameras, binocu- lars, Swiss watches and clocks, perfumes, crystal and bone china, gold and silver jewellery, Sea Island cot- ton, batik and handpainted t-shirts. There is a wide va- riety of fresh produce available at the market.

SWIMMING All beaches are public with both light and dark- coloured sand. Lagoons and beaches along the lee- ward coast provide safe swimming. Swimming along the windward (east) coast is not advisable because of the rough seas and rocks. Check local information for tides and currents.
