Learning in Litchfield Lots of Rocking at CHS Production of Grease
Sophomore Molly Santos (as Sandy) and senior Andrew Matte (as Danny) perform “All Choked Up”
by Elaine F. Cutler, Ed.D., Superintendent of Schools, SAU 27 Litchfield School District December is a season of giving, family, and community. I am proud of the efforts at all district schools to donate more than 4,000 items to the Litchfield Food Pantry. Additionally, there are coat and mitten drives to assist those in need. It is important that we teach our children to care for others and participate in the greater good of the community. These young people will lead our towns and cities in future years. It is important to teach them well. Holiday concerts have been held this week at Griffin Memorial School (GMS) and Campbell High School (CHS). If you were unable to attend one of these joyful festivities, you can still attend the Litchfield Middle School (LMS) choral concert on December 14, and the LMS band concert at CHS at 7 p.m. Both events will be held in the auditorium. You will not be disappointed in the skill and performances of the students.
A special time-honored event will be held this
Saturday morning at LMS, when the Litchfield Women’s Club hosts Breakfast with Santa. It is a wonderful opportunity to visit with friends and neighbors, have a tasty breakfast, and buy some raffle tickets for a myriad of great gifts. All proceeds contribute to student scholarships for Litchfield
residents. It is one of the most enjoyable events of the holiday season. The school budget has been sent to the Budget Committee for its review and deliberation. All meetings are open to the public, and community input is welcomed at the beginning of the meeting. All meetings begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at CHS in the media room through the month of December. I appreciate the time, effort, and expertise of the members of the committee who work tirelessly, and usually without any acknowledgement, for the good of the community. Early dates in January regarding the budget should be noted. Citizen petitions must be submitted by January 11, 2011, and the first day of the filing period for all candidates is January 19, 2011. The Public Hearing for the Budget will be held on January 13, 2011, with a snow date of January 14, 2011. Deliberative Session for the school district budget is February 5, 2011. The Litchfield School Board takes great pride in our schools and welcomes your comments and suggestions. You may contact any Board member or professional staff member using the directory available at
www.litchfieldsd.org. On behalf of the Litchfield school community, I wish you and your family a joyful holiday season.
Seniors Sera Stackpole and Nicole Rochon lead the ensemble in “Born to Hand Jive”
submitted by Campbell High School Music Department From November 19-21, Campbell High School
was rocking, as the cast and crew of Grease put on an amazing show! Over 70 students took part in this production, handling roles onstage, backstage, offstage, and in the pit band. Director Jill Deleault said, “I’m just so proud of all these students. They worked incredibly hard over the course of many weeks, and they performed with energy, accuracy, and joy.” Deleault also noted the priceless contributions of ensemble choreographer Deb Nordyke, dance captain Liana Wilbur, and pit band director Phil Martin. Crowds were at capacity for the Friday and Saturday evening shows, with an unprecedented two hundred people in the Sunday matinee audience. For audience members as well as for the students involved, this was truly a wonderful weekend full of music, laughter, dancing, and fun!
