Now through Friday, December 10 Litchfield Girl Scout Troop #12971 will hold a Winter Coat Drive from Monday, November 15 – Friday, December 10. Collection boxes will be available at Griffin Memorial, Litchfield Middle School, Campbell High and Litchfield Town Hall. We are asking residents to bring clean, reusable coats to help those in need.

Saturday, December 11 Litchfield’s favorite big fella in red is making his way to town once again, and you’ll find him at the Litchfield Women’s Club’s annual Santa’s Workshop pancake breakfast event. While breakfast with Santa is surely enough to get the whole family up and at ‘em on a December morning, there’s plenty more in store for guests who visit the Litchfield Middle School for this special event. A hearty pancake and sausage breakfast will be served from 8-11 a.m. in the LMS cafeteria, and there will be visits with Santa beginning at 9 a.m. Santa, as always, will arrive in style via the Litchfield Fire Department’s fire engine. Sandy Johnstone, a first-grade teacher from Griffin Memorial School, will be reading holiday tales to the kids, starting at 8:30 a.m., while Aaron Cutler Memorial Library Director Vicki Varick will be on hand throughout the event for families to sign up for library cards. Expect some terrific raffle prizes and a new silent auction, which will feature a baseball autographed by Red Sox player Marco Scutaro, along with a $50 Hannaford gift certificate and other exciting items. There will be games and a craft for children, and, of course, the opportunity to visit with St. Nick and take pictures of the kids. Be sure to bring along your own camera. There is a cost for the breakfast, with a discounted rate for children. All proceeds benefit the Litchfield Women’s Club Community Service and Scholarship Funds.

Thursday, December 16 The Litchfield Seniors Group will meet in the activity room of the Community Church (next to the Fire Station) at 1:30 p.m. There is a ramp to use. The program will include some Christmas fun games and light refreshments. All are asked to bring a gift ($5 limit) that will be used in a Yankee Swap. All Litchfield residents 55 and above are welcomed to attend. Let’s spread our holiday fun to all.

Saturday December 18 From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Hudson Police Department will be assisting the Salvation Army and the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots by manning the black kettle and ringing the bell to collect toys at the Hudson Wal- Mart. Donations to Toys for Tots will also be accepted. The Hudson Police Department is a drop-off point for those wishing to donate to the Toys for Tots program, but who are unable to make it on December 18.

Consider these facts. • Recycling one glass bottle saves enough electricity to light a 100-watt bulb for four hours.

• It takes 95 percent less energy to manufacture aluminum cans from recycled cans than from raw ore.
