FOOTBALL CLUB HOSTS FESTIVE FEAST FOR PENSIONERS

E

vergreen Football Club is reaching out to elderly people in and around Abbots

Langley to bring some Christmas cheer to them this festive season. The club in Southway, is holding its first ever

Christmas lunch for pensioners on Wednesday December 15. The free event came about following a

Saturday afternoon chat Evergreen physio Barry Frankham had with a couple of friends. Barry, who has been involved with the club for more than 25 years said: “We were talking about what we could do to help elderly people in and around Abbots. We do a lot for younger people what with our teams and the parties we put on for the kids and we felt it was time to do something for the Older people of the area. “We know that some elderly people live on

their own and might have trouble getting to us so we will have people available to provide lifts to and from the club on the day. “The lunch is going to be a real team effort

with lots of our members chipping in. We‟re trying to source all the food from local suppliers.

Graham Ellis and Barry Frankham are looking forward to hosting the Christmas lunch for pensioners.

Simon East Butchers has already said they‟d give us a discount and we‟re going to do all we can to make this a day the pensioners remember.” Barry, 57, added: “We want to make this an on-

going annual event helping as many people as possible. If we keep this up I might even get a dinner out of it myself in a few years‟ time.” If you, or someone you know is a pensioner who

would like to attend Evergreen‟s Christmas lunch call Barry on 07850 256 115. There are between 30-35 spaces available and booking is essential and on a first come first served basis.
