Childcare

3.60 In Fatima there is a very close relationship between education and childcare provision. Over the last few years, several worthwhile childcare projects have been initiated with very positive results on the members and the wider community. These projects include the establishment of:

- - -

The Little Peoples Palace; The Homework Club; and The Youth Project.

3.61 The plan will provide for the relocation of all community service providers including, The Little People’s Palace, The Homework Club and the Youth Project. All community groups will be accommodated in the new purpose-built facilities, which will enable them to expand and provide additional space for the local children. Training will be arranged for locals to assist staffing of centres.

3.62 A new Social Inclusion Unit has been recently established within Dublin Corporation. This unit has been recently established within Dublin Corporation. This unit is encouraging and facilitating the provision of childcare facilities and other social inclusion measures in disadvantaged areas of the city. This is currently being achieved by working with voluntary/community groups, staff within Dublin Corporation (such as Regional Housing Managers, Community Workers, Planners etc) and all the statutory agencies involved. In the Fatima regeneration plan this means that consultation will take place with all interested parties in relation to the provision of appropriate childcare and other measures for the area.
