49 The Oval, Sidcup DA15 9ER DEC 2010/JAN 2011 HAVE YOUR SAY ON BEXLEY’S BUDGET PROPOSALS

An online survey is now available for all those who wish to comment on the London Borough of Bexley’s budget proposals for 2011-2014. They were endorsed by the full Council at a recent meeting and a consultation exercise is now underway that will run until 31 January next year.

The proposals were developed in the expectation that the Council’s spending will need to fall by at least £10m a year for the next three years, following a reduction of around a quarter in the Council’s grant from the government. “To respond to the major financial challenge we face, we carried out a fundamental review of everything we do, to see how we could reduce our costs and focus on improving the services local people value most,” explained Cllr Teresa O’Neill, the Leader of the Council. “We have no choice but to reduce our spending, but we have taken care to develop proposals which we believe will be in the long-term interests of everyone who lives or works in the borough.

“Now we want to know what local residents think of our plans - and whether they have ideas of their own.” Visit the online discussion forum on http://bexleytalks.izwe.com and join the conversation ‘Meeting the challenge’, complete the online survey or write to: Strategy 2014 Feedback, Bexley Civic Offices, Broadway, Bexleyheath DA6 7LB.
