“Thumbs up to the Salem Budget Committee
for, once again, axing the useless code enforcer job. To see why, just drive up Millville Street and check out the last house on the left, before Lake Street. There are up to eight “cars’’ in various states of disrepair in the small drive and on lawns to both sides. There are also jacks and other stuff all around. If no one is on your rear bumper, take a quick look into the back yard and note it is crammed with trucks, trailers, one or more boats, portable shelters and other junk. It’s hard to believe the code enforcer does not see this in his rounds of the town. Is this a car customizing business? Even if not, it’s an outrageous mess. And I pity the poor person trying to see the cute, little house across the street. Lots of luck.”

office. All citizens need to read the superintendent’s plan to increase our children’s NECAP test scores (
http://www.sau57.org/parents/ Documents/DINI-Plan.pdf). First they will aim to increase only the students in the deficient category. How about aiming to increase scores across the board? Second they intend to increase parental involvement at home. Apparently parents are to blame for the NECAP scores not increasing over the last several years. What about the teachers? What about the curriculum?”

“Thumbs down to those that feel the Religious Sacrament of
Marriage should be available to anyone other than one man and one women. Civil Unions were offered, but that was not enough for those that still complain. So the issue is not that you are interested in protecting one another legally, or being legally a couple: the issue is really that you want the rest of us to say it is normal to be a “couple” in whatever way you choose to define it. Well it is not “normal,” anymore than being born with no arms is ‘normal.’ Our acceptance is not enough, you want us to condone what we know is wrong. Force your agenda on the rest of us, despite our religious beliefs. A typical left wing progressive move.”
“Thumbs down to the Pie Guy for the
headaches he created for the Lancaster School community and PTA. Shame on you for not coming through with the Thanksgiving pie orders on time. It’s a shame that a business that was launched and supported by the entire Salem community could be so unapologetic for their utter lack of responsibility. I hope in the future that our school utilizes another, more responsible business, to fundraise. Not only have your pies become less like homemade and more like mass- produced, but now your customer service has too.”
“Thumbs up to the Governor and the Attorney
General.” “Thumbs down to the two selectman McBride
and Lyons who voted against the warrant article to fund the Code Enforcement officer. Who’s going to do that job for free?”
“Thumbs up to the Town of Salem and the
Chamber of Commerce for working out the deal to have the Chamber be the tenant at the Depot Train Station. Great location, great fit, great building.”
“Thumbs up to the Salem Christmas Parade

Committee. This parade would just be a memory if it wasn’t for Pat Hargreaves saving it many years ago and keeping the holiday spirit alive all these years. Many have forgotten the years when the parade almost didn’t happen because of no funding. Pat got out and raised thousands of dollars to make sure that our children and grandchildren would be able to enjoy the parade as we all did. Thank you and Merry Christmas!”
“Thumbs down to the Chamber of Commerce’s deal on the Salem Depot Train Station. The town estimates that it will cost $20,000 to maintain the building and the Chamber will be paying $10,000. Do the math. They are getting too sweet of a deal.”
“Thumbs up to the Salem Christmas Parade.
Every year we look forward to a family gathering on parade day. We watch the parade and then eat Sunday dinner together. years!”
