Selectmen’s Update

by S. Aaron Shamshoyan A water meter replacement program will appear before voters as part of the operating budget in 2011, after a 3/2 vote during the selectmen’s meeting Monday night. Selectman McBride, favoring a warrant article, suggested that restoring the funds in the budget would fail at town meeting. Chairman Lyons was opposed to the motion, in favor of restoring the funds to the proposed 2011 budget. “We made a decision,” Lyons said. “I thought we made a firm decision.” Selectman Roth favored a warrant article as a means to secure the meter replacement. Roth said, “The only reason I would put a warrant article for the town to vote on would be to make sure it gets passed.” Roth says she is not a town water user herself, but feels as an elected leader that it is the right thing for the town. The vote, favoring the return of the funds to the operating budget, will be at a cost of $474,078.
