Digital TV Europe November/December 2010

Tomasz Zura ´nski CEO, Vectra .

Vectra, Poland’s second largest cable operator, led by Tomasz Zuranski, has enjoyed a good nine months, reporting year-on-year growth of 30% in its digital TV subscriber base. Mentioned as a possible consolidator of Polish cable, the company has built a strong digital offering, including a raft of HD channels.

Age 40

Education Graduated from Gdaƒsk University (psychology) and Gdaƒsk Technical University (environmental engineering, economics and management); Executive MBA, University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign.

Previous positions Previously marketing and sales director at RB (RB Polish-American Company Ltd) and consultant at GFKM.

Achievements of the year There are three worthy of mention: having launched new prod- ucts and services, which have met our clients and prospects expectations; the dynamic and systematic growth of the company in the most competitive marketplace in Poland, which is Warsaw; and having strengthened Vectra’s position as a market leader in digital TV.

Surprises of 2010 Actually I wouldn’t call it a surprise but I’ve been amazed by the speed of

transition from standard definition to HDTV. Not a long time ago many customers decided to change their old CRT TV sets to flat- screens. At first I found it rather hard to believe that they would ditch their almost new setup in favour of the new full HD screens but apparently it is happening right now. This is a great opportunity for cable operators to pro- vide them with high-quality premium content.

Goals for next year We’re going to focus on further development of our products and serv- ices portfolio. The launch of a new business-to business offer will be a part of this expansion. We’ll also continue our growth in Warsaw and other local markets. Our participation in cable market consolidation in Poland cannot be excluded as part of our planning for 2011.

Game-changing future development This is a process we’ve been able to observe for the last couple of years but I think it will become more and more prominent – the shift towards mobility. Right now, thanks to partnerships with cellular operators, our customers are offered a possibility to use our data transmis- sion services on the go. In my opinion, within the forthcoming few years we will be able to supply them with technology allowing not only mobile access to all the services available in their houses or flats but also to seamlessly and intuitively switch from using their home setup to the mobile terminal.

Ambition as a youngster Surprisingly, I never dreamt about working as a firemen, policeman or professional football player. My ambition was to become a movie director or fisherman.

Favourite TV show I do not spend a lot of time in front of TV screen however there are several shows I like to watch. I would pick up political talk-show What’s up Polandas my number one.

Life outside work Gdynia in Poland, where Vectra is headquartered, is a beautiful city located on the Baltic seaside. I like walking around together with my family. I also play tennis with my friends on a regular basis and horse riding.
