Kallima to open at Syon Park


UK: London Syon Park is a new Waldorf Astoria luxury hotel, and has announced the launch of Kallima, T e Spa – billed as “a stylish spa destination close to central London yet within the tranquil surrounds of an English country estate”. Located within 200 acres of parkland, Kallima is to feature 11 treatment rooms including a double VIP suite; personal hydrotherapy; a Vichy shower; the ‘Snug’ rest and relaxation space; a nail spa; swimming pool; whirlpool spa; sauna and steam room; and a gymnasium with its own team of personal trainers. Kallima originates from the Greek word for ‘beautiful’ and, drawing infl uence from Syon


Park’s renowned butterfl y house, is also named after a species that resembles a closed leaf until transformed by opening its wings. Rachel Tebble has been appointed Director of Spa at London Syon Park. “Kallima will introduce an entirely unique experience, with a bespoke approach to wellness that is designed to surprise and delight each and every guest,” she says. Terraké, Anne Semonin, Voya and Leighton Denny have each designed a collection of treatments exclusive to the spa called the Kallima Couture Collection, themed as Rescue, Escape, Essential, Couture and Seasonal.

acquires Depilex UK: Product supplier Ellisons has acquired Depilex, the supplier of electrical equipment to salons. Depilex is to operate as a separate company within the Ellisons Group and will have its own sales, service and management team while using Ellisons’ accounting and warehousing facilities. Depilex electrical equipment is designed for skin rejuvenation, epilation and the non-invasive facelift. In addition the company is known for its body-toning, weight loss and cellulite solutions. “Depilex has huge potential with the right infrastructure and investment as more spas and salons look to electrical equipment to provide non-invasive beauty solutions,” says CEO Geoff Morris. “We will be developing the brand to give it the permanent position and longevity it deserves in the marketplace.”

After the Rain welcomes new GM


Switzerland: Formerly Managing Director of the brand, Patrick Saussay (left) has been unveiled as General Manager of After the Rain in a move to strengthen this premium Swiss brand’s international presence. Founder Isabelle Nordmann, who started the spa product house and franchise in 2001 with the fi rst After the Rain spa in Geneva, has charged Saussay with pioneering the changes ahead. Green light for Buxton


UK: Plans to revitalise an iconic building in the spa town of Buxton have taken an important step forward. High Peak Borough Council expects the signing of agreements with Nestlé, which uses the underground water source in its famous Buxton Water product, to be imminent. T is will enable the Buxton Crescent Hotel and T ermal Spa Company to prepare the interior of the building for its redevelopment as T e Crescent T ermal Spa Hotel.


Planning permission was obtained in 2003 for the transformation of T e Crescent, and four years ago the Heritage Lottery Fund awarded £12.5m towards total development costs of around £32m. Test drilling later established precautions needed to prevent any risk of contamination of, or disruption to, the
