MAC Squash Appeals to all Ages, all Skill Levels

M

AC squash continues to grow, and the fall season is in full swing. The Sunday family clinics from 11 a.m.-noon continue to attract new players, and smaller Friday evening family clinics from 5:15- 6:15 p.m. have been added so more families can learn about, and enjoy, the game of squash.

A junior team squash program began in November, and provides a chance for junior players of all skill levels to partici- pate in a league as part of a team. This year there are four teams with adult team coaches, and higher skill level junior players serving as team captains.

There is also a singles round-robin open to all players Thursdays from 5- 7 p.m. This is a fun, low-key way to meet other players and develop one’s game. Assistant Pro Mohsen Mir also offers free

20-minute introductory lessons to players who are new to the sport. The women’s introductory clinic continues most Saturdays from 9:30- 11 a.m., and Mir continues his adult begin- ners clinic Thursdays from 12:30-1:30 p.m. This is in addition to a host of other clinics, lessons and small group drill programs for adults and juniors offered by MAC’s expe- rienced professionals.

The box singles league remains active and there is always room to sign up. The doubles league is busy this year as well. Contact the Squash Office for more information on any of these programs and clinics.

Intra-club challenge

This fall, MAC hosted an intra-club challenge versus Club Sport in Tualatin. The MAC team was victorious 7-3, and all

participants had a good time. The compe- tition was designed to provide another avenue for competitive squash at MAC while building relationships with other clubs. This competition is a start of a series of team events in the greater Portland area; the events occur between clubs every three months as teams play home and away matches.

Holiday tournament and party

The squash community hosts its annual holiday tournament Monday, Dec. 6 through Friday, Dec. 10. The tournament includes both singles and doubles draws, and draws for all skill levels. This is always a popular event and is followed by the much-anticipated annual holiday party Sunday, Dec. 12. Members may sign up online to participate in this annual celebra- tion that brings great competition in a vibrant social atmosphere.
