he intake of new members from the 2009 lottery list continues to move forward as planned. Applications are elected as membership becomes available. The club uses the lottery system to maintain a stable number of resident members, defi ned by living within a 50 aerial-mile radius of the downtown club- house. The number of resident members is limited to prevent overcrowding in facili- ties and programs. To date, the club is on schedule for election of lottery applicants. On average, nine family and four individual lottery applicants per month have been elected since January. We estimate that the 2009 lottery intake will be completed by mid-2012.

Practice Safety in the MAC Parking Structure
A
s a pedestrian in the club’s Parking Structure, it’s important to always walk in a manner that maximizes personal safety. Walking or meandering diagonally along the length of a driving lane increases a pedestrian’s exposure to a potential vehic- ular accident. Walking squarely along a parking lane to the safest point of crossing is the best approach, as vehicles can be seen approaching in both directions. Crossing near an end row or corner may not give a pedestrian enough visibility in the event of a speeding vehicle that is rounding a corner.
Other safety tips for pedestrians to observe are:
• Always stay alert for vehicles. • Don’t assume drivers see pedestrians. • Don’t walk behind a vehicle that is backing out. • Don’t block the view by holding chil- dren, boxes and packages. • Don’t presume to have the right-of-
way. WM 18 | The Wınged M | DECEMBER 2010
