ea Manor High School was recently transformed into a modern, energy efficient community complex, which benefits from a stunning Levolux Solar Shading solution. With its open outlook to the south, the school’s glazed entrance receives prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. Levolux devised an external aluminium Solar Shading solution, utilising its new Infiniti® Fin system. Resembling a rainbow of continuous coloured blades, the Levolux Solar Shading solution comprises 13 rows of 300mm wide horizontal Aerofoil Fins, applied in a vertical stack across the entrance of the school. With a total length of 16.4 metres, each Aerofoil Fin has been given a distinctive coloured powder coated finish, ranging from reds and yellows, to greens and blues. The Infiniti Fin system is an innovative form of external Solar Shading, with unique concealed fixings creating an attractive aesthetic of continuous Fins, with no apparent fixings or vertical supports. The Aerofoil Fins provide an effective shading structure across glazed areas, limiting their exposure to direct sunlight, while allowing natural daylight to filter through. The Infiniti Fin system has a flexible design, which can accommodate aerofoil, diamond, oval, rectangular and box section Fins, in widths ranging from 150mm up to 500mm. Effective insulation for Passive House TYROFOAMTM
S -A from Dow Building Solutions has been used to
extensively insulate the first certified Passive House in England, Underhill House. Distinctive blue STYROFOAM-A products FLOORMATE™
300-A, ROOFMATE™ SL-A and PERIMATE™ DI-A
insulate the floor, roof and basement walls of the structure, and played a vital role in the house getting Passive House certification. The process of extruding polystyrene foam generates a mass of small, homogeneous closed cells which gives STYROFOAM-A products high design loads, low water absorption and excellent insulating properties. Such features mean the material can be installed outside the waterproof envelope. Chosen for its high moisture-resistance and compressive strength, FLOORMATE 300-A was installed below the vast concrete floor slab, helping to avoid thermal bridges at floor and wall junction and achieving a U-value of 0.1 W/m2
resistant ROOFMATE SL-A boards, is a major feature of the building design and delivers an incredibly low U-value of 0.097 W/m2

Watertight parking luxury A
watertight basement has been constructed by Togher Construction Ltd (TCL) using 450 m³ of concrete waterproofed by the inclusion of Triton's TT Super Admix and Triton’s associated construction joint sealing products. The basement forms part of a development of seven luxurious new build
apartments, finished to the highest specification and will accommodate residents’ car parking, maintenance offices and plant rooms. Triton’s TT Super Admix was added to the mix at a ratio of 4.1Kg per m³ of concrete with a minimum cement content of 350Kg per m³ of concrete (C35 type concrete). TT Super Waterstop was set in to pre-formed recesses within all construction joints/interfaces and subsequently filled with Triton’s TT Swellseal Mastic to prevent ground water entering the structure at these vulnerable points. The active chemicals in Triton TT Super Admix react with free lime within fresh concrete to generate a non-soluble crystalline formation which seals the concrete against the penetration of water or liquid, protecting it and the steelwork within, from deterioration and carbonisation. Triton TT Waterstop is a pre-formed waterstop/waterbar supplied in a ready to use roll. When fully encapsulated by poured concrete, the expansive forces form a seal against the concrete surfaces to resist hydrostatic pressure and to stop water
from entering the sub-structures. TT Waterstop returns to its original size if the concrete is completely dry but re-expands to seal potential leaking joints when water or moisture is re-introduced. Triton Swellseal Mastic is a gun applied single-component hydro-reactive expansion sealant for waterproofing joints in concrete. It will swell up to 100 per cent when in contact with water and offers long lasting adhesive and hydro- swelling properties.
Sourcing all the components for a watertight concrete basement from the same supplier offers significant benefits to all parties, most notably it avoids the split responsibility and compatibility issues often encountered when waterproofing system components are sourced from multiple suppliers. During the construction of the watertight concrete system, the batching, placement, construction joint detail and the post pouring of concrete was inspected and monitored by Triton for quality control purposes and to meet Triton’s warranty requirements. Triton is also a RIBA approved CPD supplier and offers a seminar to architects and other specifiers on waterproofing new build basements. For further information, telephone 0208 310 3929, email
