industry news Record web access
Record UK has launched a new user-friendly website, aiming to offer a service that can help clients in the making the specification of its products and systems much easier. The site is fast to use and simple to navigate, allowing specifiers and contractors to view all the company’s systems and to download information that they need. Selecting the system the client needs is simple and a document is subsequently loaded, outlining all the technical information needed. For further information, telephone 01698 376411 or email

Wood for good T
Taking
he Forestry Commission and Wood for Good, the UK timber promotion campaign,
are once again working in partnership with TRADA, the Timber Research and Development
Association, to deliver a free of charge continuing professional development (CPD) training programme for architects and engineers. The lectures will be delivered by TRADA Technology specialists, either within architectural and engineering practices throughout the UK, or at larger regional events, where possible in conjunction with RIBA in the regions. TRADA will provide additional support to architects and engineers outside the CPDs in two ways: Via post-CPD ‘surgeries’ of up to 30 minutes, giving professionals the opportunity to submit technical/product/engineering queries for discussion after the CPD event or through a Technical Helpline, in essence the dedicated TRADA advisory service. There will be a brand new talk entitled Using British timber, available from 1st December 2010. For further information telephone 01494 569622 or email

responsibility ege has published its first CSR report, which presents a nuanced picture of the Danish company’s CSR strategy. The report is a comprehensive description of ege’s work focusing on environment, employees, safety and health. Ethical account A CSR report is an account in which the company takes responsibility for its actions by upright accounting for positive and negative facts related to the company’s work. In words and numbers ege lays out anything from emissions, consumption, work related accidents and staff turnover to values, environmental certificates, benefits and charity. The company already publishes an Environmental report as well as a Greenhouse gas account, but the CSR report is different in expression and contents. By use of words, numbers, graphics and images it presents a clear picture of a company working dedicated to create the best possible conditions for the environment, employees, safety and health. A natural step, which displayed ege’s commitment is underlined by the fact that the company has officially joined Global Compact – the UN’s guidelines for companies to work for a higher degree of sustainability. The Global Compact consists of 10 principles in human rights, labour rights, environment and anti-corruption, which ege thereby has committed to advance within their sphere of influence. Among others by making the principles part of ege’s strategy, culture and day-to-day operations. For further information or to request the report visit
