Holiday park project
A £10m two-year development programme at a holiday park in Cornwall is set to create 30 new jobs. The project is due to start before the end of this year at the Gwel an Mor Resort at Portreath with plans already in place for new tennis courts, an equestrian centre, an indoor sports hall, a cycle centre and 55 more holiday lodges, adding to the existing 58 lodges.
This is the biggest single
development phase to date at the rapidly expanding five-year-old resort, owned by Bill Haslam, who has also made a fresh planning application with proposed design changes to make the additional lodges more eco-
friendly. The new eco-friendly lodges are expected to be completed by summer 2011 and the resort will work with Pool- based eco-homes specialist Cloud Nine on the lodges. The other facilities on the 100- acre site are due to be completed by 2012 and planned subsequent developments include a golf course and conference facilities. Bill Haslam has already
invested £12m in Gwel an Mor and, with the resort already employing 60 people, he says: ‘We are well on course to creating a five-star destination in all senses with nature and conservation being a major theme in our plans.’
Offices and units scheme
WORK has begun on one of the largest speculative employment space schemes to be undertaken in Cornwall.
The Barncoose Gateway Project, worth almost £13.5m, involves the construction of offices and industrial units in Redruth. Investment for the project comes from ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) Convergence (£6.6m) and the project developers, Practical
Developments (South West) Ltd (£6.7m).
Complying to the BREEAM ‘Excellent’ standard - a measure of environmental sustainability - the buildings will provide low carbon employment space for expanding companies in the Camborne-Redruth area. The units are due to be completed by the summer of next year with the whole project being scheduled for completion by the end of 2012.
