October 2010 South West Building & Construction 23 MRT HOMES

Properties erected across the country

MRT Homes has a network of skilled and trusted craftsman at its disposal to fulfil most building projects.

These

include roofers, plasterers, builders and electricians. All the tradesman are recommended and work to the highest standards. MRT Homes offers total

flexibility in frame specification. It is the client who chooses the specification, so that the client retains ownership of the project. MRT Homes staff are available to offer any help and assistance that the client may require but the final decisions are always left to the client. MRT Homes customers often choose a 184mm closed panel system, which is insulated and has electrical boxes and conduit factory fitted. However, some clients prefer to do the insulating and boarding themselves so an open panel system is also an option.

Either frame can also be

manufactured using a 140mm stud.

The main benefit of the closed panel system is that less work is required on site - it is quicker and easier to insulate and board in a dry factory and therefore cheaper in the long run. The erection time is the same for a closed frame as it is for an open one. The key members of the team at MRT Homes are directors Mike Taylor and Nick Guscott, sales manager Alistair

Jackson and office manager Andy Coles. Mike is in charge of the sales and pricing department, the purchasing department and the timber frame erection teams. A qualified carpenter, Mike has been timber framing for over ten years.

Nick, who manages the

factory, is in charge of the manufacturing process, health and safety, and staff training. Nick is a qualified mason and has been in the timber frame business for more than a decade.

Alistair is usually the first point of contact for potential customers. As sales manager, he will discuss the product in more depth with clients, determining what specification is required and the costs involved. Alistair has many years’

experience and

knowledge in timber framing and has also built a timber frame house for himself. Andy deals with all enquiries in the office from both customers and suppliers. Working closely with Mike in many departments, Andy, a qualified accountant, also deals with the financial side of the company.
