It’s the works...!

Stephen and Erica Whettem with artist, Steve Bloom at the launch exhibition Tavistock’s new not-for-profit gallery Art at The Works opened to a warm reception last month.

According to Steve Whettem, who set up Art at The Works on the ground floor of his Dolvin Road architectural practice, response to the gallery and its not-for-profit concept has been extremely favourable.

“A number of local artists have expressed an interest in exhibiting and we have had only positive feedback from gallery visitors. The official launch attracted a lot of interest and the contemporary nature of the space seems to have touched a particular chord,’ said Steve.

Two defining images of Mick Jagger by photographer David Bailey formed the centrepiece of the launch exhibition, with work by Steve Bloom, Ian Heard, David Hodge, Hilary Hughes, John Raynes and Richard Sowman also on show.

The next exhibition - of paintings by Yozi Prasnikar with jewellery by Mark Nicholl - opens on November 29 and runs for a fortnight. The gallery is open Monday to Friday from 2 to 5 pm. For full details please visit www.artattheworks.co.uk.
