Letter from the Editor
Hello Readers! What a year! Where did it go so quickly? We watched as on Black Thursday the legal field
laid off more people than ever before (over 1200 lawyers from major firms were ousted) to signs of the economy rebounding to rumors of "not a double dip but we're not out of the recession yet and where the heck is the bottom?" That's a lot of ups and downs for just one year.
All I can say is that 2011 is bound to be better. One thing we know is stable, however, is edu-
cation. Here at KNOW, we're big believers that education is a solid tool towards advancing your career. Whoever said, "The more you KNOW," got it right.
In this issue, we take a look at a multitude of important paralegal issues. We visit with Su-
san Ippoliti Kavanagh, a successful paralegal who leveraged her skills and background to achieve new heights. We hear from our very favorite Tech Doc, Herb Roitblat, Ph.D., who gives us a look at eDiscovery technology trends for 2011. One of our favorite writers, Robert Mongue, attorney and professor at the Paralegal Program at University of Mississippi, talks with us about how we might inadvertently appear mistrustful to a jury. Then, we introduce you to 10 blogs we found we know you'll like.
We are honored to have nationally prominent Professor Laurie Levenson in "What If Women
Wrote the Laws?" Here is a fascinating piece that frankly speaks to estrogen instead of testoster- one. Most of you are familiar with Professor Levenson from viewing her many appearances on CNN, NBC and the national news.
And finally, throughout the magazine are announcements about continuing legal educa-
tion opportunities designed to assist you in advancing your career. I have always maintained that if you wait for your firm to move you ahead, you just may have a very long wait. For those of you taking the initiative to move yourselves forward, we at KNOW applaud you.
Our biggest, most important wish for all of our readers is to continue to defy the recession
and create innovative ways of tackling impossible challenges. That, of course, is the one sure way to keep defining this fantastic field for paralegals.
Here's to outrageous success!
