downturn in the economy, businesses would rather see a lower bottom line but know that they are get- ting quality legal services. As a result, I think firms are hiring more paralegals.

What's the outlook?

Great for paralegals! I mean that sincerely. Even the US Department of Labor agrees. They said: By 2016, it is estimated there will be about 291,000 working paralegals. My students will ap- preciate that news!

Where do you go from here? It is my intention to be the President of

FDD USA, LLC. Other than that, life is full of surprises and possibilities. I am quite certain that there are still plenty of risks out there for me to take and I intend to continue moving forward. I also look forward to playing my part in advancing the paralegal profession.

Any advice for other paralegals?

If I never took a risk in my life, I might never have gotten where I am today. Some would say I take too many risks but I don’t believe in waiting for things to find me. I believe that I am in charge of my own destiny. Take charge of your career and every now and then take a very risky leap of faith. Above all else, believe in yourself. Confidence is the key to your success.

Get involved! There are so many profes-

sional organizations available to us. The net- working, education and connections you will make through those organizations are invaluable and can take you very far in your career.

ALWAYS, be willing to learn no matter how much you think you know!
