commitment to SaaS


IT Reseller spoke with Juergen Biffar, co-president of DocuWare, about his vision of SaaS as the


future of document management solutions, and how DocuWare is ensuring it is in the vanguard of product development, marketing and channel support within this technology space.

ince April last year, DocuWare’s document management system has also been available as a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution in addition to, or as an


alternative to, the company’s on-premise package. DocuWare SaaS is a comprehen - sive document management system that affords users the ability of exporting documents as a backup and for long-term storage at a data centre, or completely outsourcing their entire system requirements. Access to everything in the user’s electronic archive is handled via the Web. With


DocuWare SaaS, end users have the option to lease document management functionality in order to convert fixed costs into variable ones. Now, DocuWare’s commitment to the concept of SaaS is being taken several steps further with the announcement that it has recently increased staff levels to further develop and market its SaaS offering. DocuWare’s Juergen Biffar, takes up the story: “Some of our new personnel are 100 per cent dedicated to technological development and/or marketing of our SaaS offering – others are 50 per cent involved in SaaS while also being involved in tasks related to our on-premise solution.” He added that, in total, DocuWare has added 5 or 6 members of staff to its SaaS team since the beginning of 2010. This sum includes some people who have been with the company for a longer period “So, in terms of staff involvement, there is a lot of activity surrounding SaaS, while we also continue to supply and develop our more traditional on-premise solution,” he said.


Still dedicated to the channel Biffar maintains that over the longer term, however, the market will see DocuWare increasingly moving in the direction of SaaS. “This is because we firmly believe that >>
