Water exercise (ages 13 years and older): Do you know the many benefits of exercising in water? Water exercise provides a challenging workout without the impact and joint stress of land based exercises. Water exercise is easily adapted to your individual fitness level – so the workout is not too hard or too easy! This class takes place in chest deep water – non-swimmers are welcome! lifeguard Training • ages 15+ The American Red Cross Lifeguard Training class provides lifeguard


candidates with the skills & aquatic knowledge necessary to keep patrons of aquatic facilities safe in & around water. This course teaches lifeguarding skills, first aid & CPR for the Professional Res- cuer (CPR/FPR). Upon successful completion, students will have the skills & knowledge to prevent, recognize & respond to emergen- cies & to provide care for injuries & sudden illnesses until advanced medical personnel arrive & take over. The American Red Cross will issue certificates upon successful completion. Prerequisites: Must have the ability to swim 500 yards continuously & retrieve a 10-pound brick from the bottom of the pool; must be at least 15 years of age by the last day of class. Fee includes books, certification fee & facility use. Attendance and participation is required at all class meetings. location: Meet at the James logan Pool on the first Day!

Absolutely no refunds or transfers will be given on OR after the first day of a class. Cancellation requests must be made before the first day of the class, and a $10.00 processing fee will be charged for each cancelled class. If you are cancelling a class on or before April 18th, 2011, contact the Kennedy Community Center at 675-5329, refunds for classes beginning April 18th will NOT be granted. An individual may transfer to another class if notice is given before the first day of the class. A $10.00 transfer fee will be charged for each transfer after the start of the program. All transfers must be made in person. Only one transfer is permitted per person per class.


Have a Happy birthday Party with UCls aquatics! Join UCLS for your child’s birthday at the Dan Oden Swim Complex. Your birthday party package includes an aquatic themed party, su- pervised recreation swimming. All participants must provide their own swim attire and towels. Party decorations and 45 minutes of aquatic games and activities lead by a lifeguard is included with your reser- vation. Reservations must be made at least 2 weeks in advance and payment is due at the time of reservation. Reservations are taken on a first come, first served basis. The Dan Oden Swim Complex is available for private pool rentals on Friday and Saturday evenings and Sundays from April to October. Requests for rentals must be made 30 days in advance. For rates and more information, please call 675-5486.

spring! This program will help swimmers prepare for the brand new FUNpetitive swim league that will begin this summer in conjunction with the Hayward Area Parks and Recreation District. To participate in prep-team your child must be able to swim 25 yards of crawl stroke, and 25 yards of backstroke. Come be a part of our team and you will find out what it takes to swim your heart out, and be a team player and most impor- tantly, have fun!

frequently asked Questions Q: Is the pool heated? A: Yes. Our pool is heated to 80° daily.


Q: How long are swim lessons? A: Swim lessons are a half-hour long.


Q: How many swim lessons are there? A: 8 weekday classes and 4 weekend classes.


Q: How much are swim lessons? A: Group weekday lessons are $56 for residents of Union City, and $66 for non residents of Union City. Group weekend lessons are $32 for residents of Union City, and $37 for non residents of Union City.


Q: Why are the prices different for residents and non-residents? A: Residents of Union City pay property taxes that help pay for Union City activities, programs, and facility and park maintenance. Non-residents do not pay these taxes.
