Hawkin’s Bazaar has acquired Unit 32, Green Lanes Shopping Centre, providing 1,945 sq ft on ground floor, by way of a new 10-year lease incorporating a tenant-only option to break at the expiration of year six. The initial rent is £50,000 pax. Williams Gunter Hardwick represented Hawkin’s Bazaar while the lessor, Jersey Property Unit Trust, was represented by Savills.


BISHOP AUCKLAND


Ravenhill Estates has let Unit 3 at the Newgate Centre to Aura Stores. The fashion jewellery retailer has agreed a new 12-month lease on the unit, which totals 1,062 sq ft. Aura Stores will pay an annual rent of £30,000. Ravenhill was represented jointly by Savills and Barker Proudlove, Aura Stores was advised by Capital Retail.


BURY ST EDMUNDS


Sports Direct.com, has acquired the last remaining unit in Michael Drummond Properties’ conversion of the former Woolworths store, joining Poundland and Tesco Express. Sports Direct.com moved into the town earlier this year occupying the former Next store located on Cornhill on a temporary licence. After a very successful trading period, it has now acquired Unit C, 24/26 Cornhill on a new 10-year lease at a commencing rental in the region of £150,000 pa. The new store provides 11,789 sq ft on ground and first floors. Jones Lang LaSalle and John D Wood were letting agents. Hartnell Taylor Cook advised Sports Direct.com on both the temporary and permanent lettings.


DEWSBURY


Ravenhill Estates has let 347 sq ft at the Princess of Wales Precinct to a private occupier trading as Hollywood Nails. The retailer has agreed a new three-year lease on the store, and will pay an annual rent of £19,500. Ravenhill was represented by Savills.


EDINBURGH


Virgin Media has acquired Unit 62, Gyle Shopping Centre, totalling 1,269 sq ft on ground floor, by way of a new 10-year effectively full repairing lease with a mutual option to break at the expiration of year five. The initial rent is £80,000 pax. Williams Gunter


TOUCHWOOD SIGNS TWO MORE AS SALES SOAR


Superdry and homeware retailer Dwell are set to become the latest brands to join Lend Lease’s Touchwood shopping centre in Solihull. Superdry has taken a 15-year lease on a 7,100-sq ft unit while Dwell has signed a lease for 10 years on a 6,900-sq ft unit. The stores are the latest additions to the line up at Touchwood following recent deals to Pret a Manger, Ask, Bank


and Giraffe. Owner Lend Lease said Touchwood has outperformed the UK market with sales growing every month over the past


year. In September sales were up 15.7 per cent year on year. Guy Thomas, head of leasing at Lend Lease, said: “Touchwood continues to go from strength to strength and we’re currently in advanced negotiations with an additional two companies.”


Hardwick and GVA Grimley represented Virgin Media while the lessor, The Gyle Centre General Partner, was represented by Cushman & Wakefield.


HULL


Standard Life Investments, on behalf of Standard Life Investments Property Holdings, has let Unit 1 at Clough Road Retail Park to Dreams. The bed retailer has taken a store totalling 25,324 sq ft on a new 15-year lease. Dreams will pay £265,902 pa. Standard Life Investments was represented by Savills and Edgerley Simpson Howe.

Sports Direct.com has taken a 4,040 sq ft store at Surrey Quays Shopping

Hawkin’s Bazaar has acquired Unit R22, Marsden Way in the Arndale Shopping Centre totalling 1,467 sq ft on ground floor with a mutual option to break at any time from September 2017. The initial rent is £39,000 pax. Williams Gunter Hardwick represented Hawkin’s Bazaar while the lessor, Prudential Property Investment Managers, was represented by Tushingham Moore.


PORTSMOUTH


Warren James Jewellers has taken a new five-year lease on 600 sq ft at 31A Cascades Shopping Centre at a commencing rent of £49,500 pa. Colliers International was letting agent and Brasier Freeth represented the tenant.


SOUTHEND


International shoe retail giant, Deichmann, has taken a 5,758-sq ft store on the ground floor of the Victoria Shopping Centre scheme, next to the centre’s other newest arrival, health and beauty store Boots. The rent agreed with Deichmann is £120,000 pa, on a 10-year lease. Jones Lang LaSalle and Gooch Cunliffe Whale advised landlord Delamere Estates.
