could not ask for a better traveling companion. He has exceeded our expectations.” For Polanski and the volunteers at Lost Our Home, such feedback is music to their ears.

“I love when a pet gets adopted, and we hear from the adopter how wonderful the pet is, and how the pet has made a difference in their household and in their life,” says Polanski. “You just can’t help but be overjoyed, because this pet wouldn’t have had this wonderful home, and this person would not have had this wonderful pet – that’s what keeps everybody going.”

Lost Our Home is always in need of dedicated volunteers, foster homes and loving “forever homes.” To learn more, visit www.azlabsandgiants.org, www.lostourhome.org or call 602-230-HELP.

While the Lost Our Home Foundation started as a place where real estate professionals could report abandoned pets, the organization now gets more phone calls from concerned neighbors, says Executive Director Jodi Polanski. “Neighbors really do see the pets first,” she says. “They know the neighbor moved out and they still hear the dog barking, or see a cat in the window.” Chandler law prohibits “intentionally, knowingly or recklessly” subjecting an animal to “cruel neglect or abandonment.”

Residents who suspect a pet has been abandoned in or around an empty home are encouraged to call the Chandler Police Department, which contracts with Maricopa County Rabies and Animal Control to collect the pets, says Chandler PD’s Public Information Officer David Ramer.

To report an abandoned pet to the City of Chandler, call the Chandler Police Department’s non-emergency line at 480-782-4130.
