Ashley described her as the longest bodied calf and said her neck blended well into her body. He gave as his reasons for placing her first her movement and length of rump over Wyndford Statesman Duchess 81 from Shropshire in second. Describing Duchess as a heifer who will develop, Ashley preferred her rump structure to Knowlesmere Breakout Starlight representing Northern Ireland in third. She in turn was more open and showed extra rib than fourth placed Forte RSC Renita Red from Western. And so another All Britain Calf show concluded. The standard this year was as high as ever, and the quality of calves, handling and Club promotional activities on display all deserve a larger audience. We were fortunate this year to have two outstanding UK judges in James Tomlinson and Ashley Fleming, both of whom did their job expertly and efficiently and kept the show moving. We offer them our sincere thanks for their time and their skill, while also thanking our main sponsor Genus ABS and our media partner Farmers Guardian. In addition, Harrison & Hetherington supplied a jacket to each class winner and Showtime Supplies sponsored the first prizes, while CIS sponsored the refreshments and we are hugely grateful to all three for their continued support. Finally, it shouldn’t be forgotten that the All Britain Calf Show is an HYB event and I should thank all the HYB members and their families who put in so much time and effort to make the show the success it was. Without this effort, the event is nothing and those involved were a credit to themselves and to the breed. Whether you competed, were there as a helper or unable to attend but involved beforehand, thank you all very much. Roll on next year!
