Frandsen Project Lighting creates a stunning centre piece for the

Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai.

Frandsen Project Lighting was chosen by architect Rockwell Group Europe to manufacture a large custom lighting piece to hang in the Wasabi restaurant within the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai. The restaurant suffered complete destruction during the attacks on the hotel in 2008 and the design for the private dining table at Wasabi – one of Mumbai’s most coveted dining tables – required a particularly elegant, striking and exciting design gesture. Frandsen Project Lighting brought it’s ability and experience in manufacturing custom lighting to develop a highly customised and unique quality product. A seamless dialogue between all parties involved with regards to the design, production and fabrication was integral to the development and manufacturing of such a unique and large custom piece in Europe and it’s on time delivery to India. The design concept and direction was generated by Rockwell Group

Europe in Madrid and the lighting concept, technology and finishing were developed in Denmark by Frandsen Project Lighting. The end result is a stunning, sculptural setting. Seamlessly cast as one piece in lightweight aluminium with a custom metallic bronze-gold paint finish, the two metre-diameter dome fixture soars in the historic hotel’s turret space creating an immediate visual identity for the restaurant from the harbour and street below. When combined with the table below, also seamlessly cast industrial grade-aluminum with the same finish, the silhouette is one of a complete and singular piece. Transforming itself, the table features pull-out chairs lined with a supple vanilla leather that peel away from the unified form, allowing diners to inhabit the sculpture, graced from above and enveloped by the gold leaf application on the interior of the dome. At the centre of the table is an

Indian-limestone lazy susan, all coming together to reflect the exciting, exclusive and convivial aspirations for the dining experience in the space. Frandsen Project Lighting also completed the manufacturing of the table and chairs to ensure that a uniform finish is gained. Frandsen Project Lighting (part of Frandsen Group) is a Danish lighting company with more than 40 years experience in the lighting industry. FPL has a large portfolio of lighting projects ranging from interior decorative lighting tasks to international commercial projects and concepts. Its work within all aspects of interior decorative lighting for hotels, restaurants, and shopfitters is a result of a strong dedication to the Danish tradition of craftsmanship.
