More Letters to our Editor Thank You for Your Support
continued from page 4 We sincerely want to thank all those
voters who supported us in the election last week. It is gratifying to know that so many people believed that our work in two terms in the House of Representatives justified sending us back to the Legislature for a third term.
Although we will not be in the House this term, we promise to stay involved in working for the good of our fellow citizens of Hudson, Litchfield, and Pelham. Our first priority is supporting a Senior Center for Hudson! We also want to wish our incoming representatives well over the next two years. You are now entrusted them with the responsibilities of government. This last term has been especially painful for all of us. The economic collapse of the past several years has been hard on almost everyone. As the economy got worse, the pressure on taxpayers also increased. Many lost their jobs in the second worse downturn of the past century (after the Great Depression). Many who kept their
jobs had hours reduced. That made it harder for people to pay bills, including taxes. But at the same time, many of those same people needed more help to keep their lives from collapsing completely. Creating the state budget is always a balancing act between spending priorities and available revenue. But in a depressed economy, it is even harder to find this balance. At the same time that demands for government services increase, it becomes harder to raise revenue to meet those demands. Although this past term was particularly hard, we still managed to produce a balanced budget with cuts that minimized harm to New Hampshire citizens, and limited, targeted revenue increases. The coming term is likely to be much more difficult. Although the economy is slowly recovering, it still has a long way to go, and ordinary people are still hurting. The projected deficit will be much larger, and some measures used to keep the current budget in balance will no longer be
available. This will be a time when we will need a balanced hand in the legislature. To maintain our continuing good financial ratings, they must be careful with raising taxes and debt, but they must also keep in mind the citizens who continue to suffer from the poor national economy. Finally, we are concerned about education funding: making state “adequacy” funding work fairly for everyone in the state. The legislature has finally defined an “adequate education,” developed an estimate of its cost, and created a constitutional funding plan. However, some towns, especially Litchfield and Derry, were seriously harmed by the new funding formula. We think it is crucial to correct that inequity. Once again, thank you to all of you who came out to vote. Please keep in touch with us. We’ll still be here to help in any way we can.

Carabiner Recall
Hunter Safety System (HSS) announced a voluntary recall
of carabiners. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. There are about 16,000 recalled units sold at outdoor hunting retailers and directly from the company via telephone and the company’s Website at www.
huntersafetysystem.com from June 2010 through September 2010 for about $100. The hazard is the pins in the carabiners can detach, causing a climbing strap to break free from the safety harness. This can result in the climber falling. Description: The 2010 Year HSS Ultra-Lite carabiners were supplied with the HSS-300 Ultra-Lite full body climbing safety harness. The carabiners are black with a pin sticking out of the gate. They have “CB20101” stamped on the side opposite the gate. For additional information, contact Hunter Safety System toll- free at (877) 296-3528 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Central Time, Monday through Friday, or visit the firm’s Website at

Santa’s on His Way!
submitted by Nottingham West Lions Club of Hudson Santa Claus will arrive for his annual visit on Friday, November 26! Since his trusty reindeer will be resting after the long trip from the North Pole, the Hudson Fire Department will give Santa a ride to the Hudson Town Common at 4 p.m. Santa will then supervise the lighting of the trees, which will shine throughout the holiday season.
Following the tree lighting, all good little boys and girls, along with their families, are invited to follow Santa over to the Hudson Community Center for crafts and refreshments. This year, the Nottingham West Lions Club of Hudson will place a collection box for mittens, hats, and scarves at the front door. All contributions will go to a local charity. Helping the Nottingham West Lions with
Santa’s visit are the Senior Citizens, Alvirne Culinary Arts Department, Nottingham West School PTO, and Hudson Memorial School (Rachel’s Challenge students). We are all looking forward to sharing this annual event with the children of Hudson. For more information, contact Jeri at 883-8565 or Wanda at 883-6593.
“We wish to be in charge of our own destiny,” commented Hudson Police Officer Detective Matt Keller. “As a union unto ourselves, we will be better positioned to partner with the Hudson Community as well as control our own destiny.” As an employee union unto themselves, “we will control our own decisions locally while we represent ourselves. Should there be a grievance or employee concern, by becoming our own union, we will be better positioned to resolve the issues locally.” Keller went on to say that the Hudson Police Employee Association also “looks forward to providing scholarships, support local athletic teams, working directly with the Town of Hudson Board of Selectmen, as well as host fund raising activities for the betterment of our community.”

ADOPT ME
Shay is a sweet six year old female Rottweiler who came to our shelter as a result of a divorce. She is housetrained, good with kids, walks well on a leash, knows basic commands and enjoys going for rides in the car. She gets along well with dogs but, is not open to living with cats. Shay was given way too many treats in her life so will need several daily walks to help her get her weight to a healthy goal. Due to her weight issue, Shay is only able to climb a few stairs at present. She is not able to climb a large flight or jump in a car (with a boost she will love you for the ride). We are pretty certain
that as her weight issue is worked on, her mobility will pick up.Shay loves to be petted and will nudge you when you sto to tell you she wants more love! Shay will do well in a home with older children and a family who has rottie experience. She will also need a family that has time to walk her to help shed those pounds. If you think Shay would be a good addition to your family
and would like to meet her please apply online at
www.arnne.org. She is patiently waiting for her forever home
