“Professional and postgraduate qualifications give applicants an immediate advantage” Jane Houzer, Executive Dean for the Faculty of Business

Fewer women are breaking into the upper echelons of the business world, according to a recent survey by headhunting company SpencerStuart.

The survey has seen the number of companies with one or more female non-executive directors drop for the second consecutive year – 63 per cent, down from 72.6 per cent in 2007.

Further, the figures show that in total the number of female executive directors also dropped from 4.4 per cent last year to a measly 3.7 per cent.

How can a postgraduate qualification help you to succeed in such a challenging market?

“Professional and postgraduate qualifications give applicants an immediate advantage over others in what is an increasingly competitive and selective jobs

market,” says Jane Houzer, Executive Dean for the Faculty of Business at London South Bank University (LSBU).

“Having a professional Masters degree sends a strong signal to current and potential employers. It demonstrates that the qualified candidate not only has the drive, motivation and commitment to achieve an award of this nature, but also a confident grasp of the latest thinking and practical developments in the relevant profession across a range of industries and sectors. It makes sense for employers to harness this expertise to add value to their bottom line.”

The Faculty of Business at LSBU champions women in business and offers a range of professionally accredited postgraduate and professional qualifications to help female professionals succeed.
