TRANSNATIONAL CORPORATE GOVERNANCE This concentration provides students with the tools tomanage globally in an environment where legal norms and institutions are increasingly important. The programhighlights corporate governance issues both at the local and transnational levels – issues central to raising capital for companies around the globe – and explores other key international issues including human rights concerns, which now can be crucial in shaping the image of a global business. The programcovers the basics of business law and offers externships at leading international law firms, inmajor businesses in the Los Angeles area and beyond, and at international organizations such as Amnesty International and the International Criminal Court at the Hague; a student-run law journal; various international-oriented student organizations; amoot court teamthat focuses exclusively on international law; and academic exchange programs with countries all over the world. THE SCALE® 3-YEAR JD/MBA OPTION Beginning in 2010, students will be able to integrate the JD andMBA curriculum, earning both degrees in just three years through Southwestern’s accelerated SCALE® Program. Established in 1974 as the nation’s first two-year JD program, SCALE combines substantive knowledge and professional skills instruction, amodel that is just now being incorporated into curricular reforms atmany other law schools. By combining SCALE with Drucker’s innovativemanagement curriculum, students will be extremely well-prepared for high-level positions in the legal and business worlds. Students in this concurrent-degree programwill spend their first year at Southwestern, their second at Drucker and their third taking courses fromboth schools. Specially-designed externships and joint courses that integrate classroominstruction in law andmanagement with hands-on skills will be a part of the required curriculumin this program.
