Emma Norris (12) and Vicky Fethney (10) won our competition to enjoy a tour of the RSPB reserve at Bempton. Here is what they got up to:
Emma writes... “What a great day, even though it was blowing a gale! It was fantastic to see the puffins and other birds in their natural habitat. We learnt a lot of interesting information and with our binoculars saw close-ups of the puffins. Thank you so much, Puffin Post team, for awarding us with such a great prize and an amazing goody bag.”
Vicky says... “Last weekend I went to North Yorkshire to a bird reserve in Bempton. We had a guided tour of the cliffs. Alan (our guide) showed us kittiwakes, gannets, guillemots, razorbills and fulmars. We even saw some puffins – the highlight of my day! It was quite hard to spot the puffins but once you've seen one they just keep on coming! I would like to thank everyone who helped out at the reserve and at Puffin Post HQ. It was a brilliant day and I would definitely go again.”
The kittiwake is a gull with black wing-tips that look like they’ve been dipped in ink. Its name derives from its call which sounds like it’s saying “Kitty-waa-ake”!
