The GTA Construction Report – November 2010 – PAGE A3 CAWIC Hosts 5th Annual Golf Day STAFF WRITER – The GTA Construction Report
The Canadian Association of Women in Construction (CAWIC) hosted its fifth an- nual Golf Day Event on September 30, at a new location, the Glen Eagle Golf Club. Open to members and non-members this event boasts a casual day of golfing, a com- plementary lunch, and a variety of awards for achievements on the course. This year the event was a true celebration as CAWIC welcomed four new members to their board of directors, revealed their new strategic partnership with Building Industry and Land Development Association (BILD) and announced their upcoming 5th Anniversary Celebration, which will be held at the Bata Shoe Museum on November 17th. Since breaking from their sister-organi- zation the National Association of Women
in Construction (NAWIC), this young asso- ciation has grown from 35 members in 2006 to over 75 current members. Current CAWIC president Mira Fabian recounted the association’s past successes, notably their partnership with Rona Inc., their cur- rent achievements and their future plans to expand membership and grow as an organ- ization. In addition to attracting new mem- bers, CAWIC works to raise funds for their Bursary and create community awareness of their organization thus broadening their in- dustry-wide support and sponsorship. “It is also an event that provides an opportunity for CAWIC members, corporate supporters and industry partners to network and so- cialize in an all-day enjoyable activity,” says Fabian.
