INDULGENCES mixology by jared cox FROM THE WINE BAR
NATICCHIONI LONG BEACH
ALEX Situated near downtown Long Beach, The Wine Bar is praised by
locals as the premiere wine and beer destination in the LBC. The Wine Bar is not your typical pretentious wine bar. It offers a warm, welcoming atmosphere hosted by friendly and knowledgeable staff. Each month, The Wine Bar features local artists, eclectic music and daily specials. The lounge offers comfy couches, as well as TV’s for sports watching. The beverage list consists of 22 wines from across the world, 25 mi-
cro and craft beers and tasty small plates. The Wine Bar also features affordable wine and beer tastings weekly. This urban-fabulous location is owned and operated by three
young men with the philosophy that good beer and good wine are simply meant to be enjoyed. The Rage Monthly sat down with owner Alex Naticchioni for a little wine 411.
The Rage Monthly: For the new wine enthusiast, what are some pointers to getting them on their way to becoming a wine connoisseur? Alex: Start with what you like. Find a wine that tastes good to you, from there you can move on to try and understand what it is about that wine that draws you to it.
Rage: What makes The Wine Bar Long Beach different from the rest? Alex: We’re not your typical stuffy wine bar. We want to create a non-pretentious
environment where the wine enthusiast and novice can both enjoy a nice glass of wine at an affordable price.
Rage: What are some tips that you can provide our readers that help them taste wine like an expert? Alex: Sniff it out. As stupid as it looks, taking a nice deep breath from the glass, fol- lowed by a sip will help to bring out more of the characters that wine has to offer.
Rage: How did you get involved with wine and what are some of your favorite things related to all that is wine? Alex: When we opened in 2009 is really when I heavily got involved. We would
taste wine almost every day, so my knowledge grew quite rapidly. I love how wine is constantly changing and that there is always something new to taste and with about 10,000 different grape
varietals...it doesn’t seem like that trend is going to change anytime soon.
Rage: What are some specialties that are exclusive to The Wine Bar? Alex: Our weekend special. Every Saturday and Sunday we do Bottomless mimosas and “All You Can Eat” waffles from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. and all for only $12.
Rage: What events and weekly specials does The Wine Bar offer customers? Alex: We have happy hour every day from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. and different nightly specials through out the week. We have different things going all the time. The best thing to do would be to check out the website at
lbwinebar.com.
Rage: What wine best describes your personality? Alex: I would be Bordeaux. Big, bold and will most always, leave you remember-
ing me.
Rage: What can readers expect when they walk into The Wine Bar? Alex: A comfortable, non-pretentious atmosphere with good wine, good beer, deli- cious appetizers and an assortment of eclectic music.
