by Elaine Cutler The Litchfield School Board is committed to listening to suggestions and information from the community. To that end, they have conducted three Community Budget Forums in the past month. The presentation as well as comments and opinions from participants at those meetings are available on the district Website at
www.litchfieldsd.org. The School Board plans to continue receiving public input at
Open Forum meetings at 6 p.m. on November 3 and November 10. Both Open Forums will be held at Campbell High School prior to regularly scheduled School Board meetings. If a community member is unable to attend a meeting, they may send suggestions to School Board members via e-mail. All School Board members’ addresses are listed on the district Website. The school district has formed a committee consisting of parents,
teachers, students, and administrators to study and revise the Bullying Policy so that it will be in alignment with recent legislative

action. The committee is seeking input and extends an invitation to the community to voice any concerns or suggestions via e-mail or at one of the upcoming Open Forums. As we work together to manage the significant reduction in state funding, the School Board appreciates your time and efforts on behalf of the students of Litchfield.
Heating Season is Here! Now is the Time to Check Your Heating System
submitted by State of New Hampshire Department of Safety We’re starting into the heating season and the high-energy prices concern fire officials, according to State Fire Marshal Bill Degnan. This is the time to check your heating systems. Having your heating system checked by a qualified professional will help ensure that the system is ready to operate safely and, also of great importance, will use the fuel efficiently. Heating unit fires are still the number-one cause of fires in New Hampshire and they are preventable!

of Fire Chiefs, Shawn Murray, heating fires are often the result of improper installations and use or maintenance of supplemental home heating appliances, such as wood stoves, coal stoves, and kerosene space heaters. Chief Murray also warns that the use of these supplemental heating devices also increases the risk of dangerous accumulation of carbon monoxide in the home if not properly installed and maintained. Now is the time to have them checked.

Degnan also advises that it is critical that every home has interconnected smoke alarms on each floor level and that every family should develop and practice a home fire escape plan. Smoke alarms should be tested monthly, and matches and lighters should be kept out of the reach of children at all times. Degnan also adds that a home with working smoke alarms and residential fire sprinklers is the best means of protecting your family from the ravages of fire. For further information concerning home fire safety, contact your local fire department or the state fire marshal’s office.
