Patriot October 29, 2010 - 15 Patriot Community Sports Saints Looking Good in Week 4
submitted by Donna Sovie The Saints Mite 1 team dropped
a hard fought 6-3 decision against a stout Cape Ann Mite 1 team early Saturday morning at the Valley Forum in Haverhill. The Saints entered the third period tied at 3 on the strength of three Nick Peters goals and solid netminding from Joey Reagan, but Cape Ann managed to edge away late, sending the spiraling Saints home with a third consecutive defeat. Patrick Last was all over the ice and added two assists, while Will Caraccio and Ethan Cohen each added a helper. The Saints look to stop the bleeding next Sunday against an up-and-coming Amesbury Mite 1 team, once again at the Valley Forum in Haverhill, and once again at 6:45 a.m. The Salem Saints Mite 2 team looked
sharp Sunday as they were able to hold off a motivated Masco squad. The Saints were set up in three solid lines. On the black line, James Sanford of Salem and Eric Hoover led the defense, and Trey Sovie of Derry kept the puck
out of the net with a solid goaltending performance. The white line saw Sean Norris, Owen Bower of Sandown, and Vito Mancini making lots of great passes while Sam German of Haverhill, MA, denied shot after shot in net. Equally impressive was the blue line with Ryan Trainor of Salem; and Mac McCarthy, Evan Foskett, and Thomas Blake of Windham showing great defensive and offensive hustle. The Saints Squirt 1 team beat a
resourceful Greater Lowell squad 5-4 on Saturday afternoon. Mason Healey led the offensive charge with two goals. Sebastian Farah and Brendon Banks added one each, and Joe Moore put one away with 1:45 left in the third period to give the Saints the win. Michael Borelli, Mason Drouin, Hunter Healey, and Jimmy Harootian played solid defense, while Matt Dowdy preserved the win with some key saves in the third. The Saint Squirt 1 team came out
flying early Sunday morning to beat North Andover 4-1. Moore scored
47 seconds into the game, assisted by Banks and Charlie Beneze. Just over a minute later, Jon Last scored on a rebound, with Banks picking up his second assist. With just under two minutes left in the first, Farah scored on a nice wraparound that was assisted by John Pinksten. Steve Birch finished off the scoring on a nice pass from Moore. Dowdy was outstanding in goal, with strong defense from Borelli, Drouin, Hunter Healey, and Harootian. The Saints Squirt 2’s back-checking,
fore-checking, and all-around team hustle preserved a 3-1 victory over Wakefield S2 Saturday in Tewksbury. Once again, an outstanding goaltending effort was turned in by Aleksei Lavrentyev to secure the “W.” After a scoreless first, Eric DeFelice notched a couple of unassisted goals in the second to get the Saints on the board. With a minute to play in the third, Wakefield pulled their goalie and Matt DiPrizio took advantage, scoring an empty netter. Sharp passing by the Saints was encouraging to see

throughout the game. The Saints Squirt 2’s seven-game winning streak came to an abrupt end on Sunday morning against a tough Stoneham S1 team. This one was scoreless through two periods until Stoneham scored two quick tallies

Football Falls to Nashua South
by Chris White The Salem football team fell to Nashua South
by the score of 38-34 on the road last Friday night. A four-yard touchdown run by Jerickson Fedrick put the Devils up 7-0 in the first quarter, but South answered with two touchdowns and a field goal on their next three drives. Salem retook the lead, though, and held a
21-17 advantage at the half. The game was knotted 24-all at the end of three periods, but South would outscore Salem 14-10 in the final frame to take the victory. Thanks to a 51-yard
touchdown run by Fedrick and a 31-yard field goal by Chris Saulnier, the Devils had a 34-24 lead with just under seven minutes remaining in the game. South would rally with two touchdowns in the final minutes, however. One touchdown was a short run and the other was a 74-yard pass play.
Leading the Devils on the
night was Fedrick with 201 yards on 22 carries and three touchdowns, and Max Jacques
