Multiple Fire Departments Battle House Fire

submitted by Windham Fire Department On Tuesday morning at approximately 10:33 a.m., the Windham Fire Department responded to a reported building fire at 117 Indian Rock Road located behind the Citizens Bank building. First-arriving firefighters encountered heavy smoke conditions throughout the one-

story home. Occupants of the home, who were home at the time the fire broke out, did manage to escape the home with no injuries. A second alarm was sounded for additional resources. Fire was visible from the roof of the home, as well as the back windows. At one point during the incident, the fire became so intense and thick with smoke that firefighters were ordered out of the structure until additional personnel arrived on scene. The home received extensive fire damage. No injuries to firefighters were reported. Departments from Derry, Salem, Pelham, Hudson, Hampstead, and Londonderry

assisted at the scene while Londonderry and Nashua provided station coverage. The fire is currently under investigation by the Windham Fire Department.

Butler and Greenleaf of SHS Shine at Class L Individual Championship

submitted by Cindy Butler

Ryan Greenleaf of Windham, Coach Ben Adams, and Ryan Butler of Windham After the disappointment of this year’s Class L Team Championship

being rained out, Ryan Butler and Ryan Greenleaf had to shift their focus to the Individual round played at Brentwood Golf Course in Keene. Butler and Greenleaf represented Salem High as two of the 28 golfers chosen to compete for the Class L Individual Title. The boys did not disappoint Coach Ben Adams, who has coached them since they were freshmen. Butler finished third, carding a 75, while Greenleaf tied for 10th with an 82. Butler and Greenleaf, both seniors and co-captains for the Salem

Blue Devils, have competed together for the varsity squad since they were sophomores. Even though they were not able to complete the three-peat this year, they were both integral parts of the school’s 2008 and 2009 Class L Championship teams.

U.S. Attorney’s Office Establishes District Election Officer and Election Day Hotline

submitted by Department of Justice, District of New Hampshire United States Attorney John P. Kacavas has announced that Assistant United States Attorney Mark S. Zuckerman will lead the efforts of his Office in connection with the Justice Department’s nationwide Election Day Program for the upcoming November 2 general elections. AUSA Zuckerman has been appointed to serve as the District Election Officer for the District of New Hampshire and, in that capacity, is responsible for overseeing the District’s handling of complaints of election fraud and voting rights abuses in consultation with Justice Department Headquarters in Washington. United States Attorney Kacavas also announced the establishment

of an Election Day Hotline that will be monitored throughout Election Day on November 2. The hotline number is (603) 491- 5798.

United States Attorney Kacavas said, “Every citizen is guaranteed

the right to vote without interference or discrimination, unimpeded and untainted by fraud of any kind. The Department of Justice will act promptly and aggressively to protect the integrity of the election process.” Eight years ago, the Department of Justice established a Ballot

Access and Voting Integrity Initiative. The goals of this ongoing Initiative are to increase the Department’s ability to deter election fraud and discrimination at the polls, and to prosecute these offenses whenever and wherever they occur. The Department’s long- standing Election Day Program furthers these goals, and also seeks to ensure public confidence in the integrity of the election process by providing local points of contact within the Department for the public to report possible election fraud and voting rights violations

while the polls are open on Election Day. The franchise is the cornerstone of American democracy. We all

must ensure that those who are entitled to the franchise exercise it if they choose, and that those who seek to corrupt it are brought to justice. In order to respond to complaints of election fraud or voting rights abuses on November 2 and to ensure that such complaints are directed to the appropriate authorities, United States Attorney Kacavas stated that Assistant United States Attorney/DEO Zuckerman will be on duty in this District while the polls are open. He can be reached by the public at the following dedicated Election Day hotline: (603) 491-5798. In addition, the FBI will have Special Agents available in each

Field Office and Resident Agency throughout the country to receive allegations of election fraud and other election abuses on Election Day. The FBI can be reached by the public at (603) 472-2224. Complaints about ballot access problems or discrimination can

be made directly to the Civil Rights Division’s Voting Section in Washington at 1-800-253-3931 or 202-307-2767. A Federal Election Fraud Fact Sheet that explains what triggers

federal criminal jurisdiction in connection with elections and voting rights is posted on the United States Attorney’s Website: www.usdoj. gov/usao/nh. United States Attorney Kacavas said, “The effectiveness of our Election Day Program depends in large part on the watchfulness and cooperation of the American electorate. It is imperative that those who have specific information about discrimination or election fraud make that information available immediately to the United States Attorney’s Office, the FBI, or the Civil Rights Division.”
