What Thanksgiving traditions does your family have?

“ “ “ “

Touch football at 11, potluck meal with husband, kids, friends, friends’ friends and relatives, neighbors, students, and anyone who wants to come. Going around the table to say what we’re thankful for. Then: Redskins-Dallas game. Then: pie. Then: Whoever is still up for it heads to a usually terrible, big Hollywood movie, and we give thanks for the pleasure of making fun of terrible, big Hollywood movies with a group of giddy, happy, tired, good friends.

Our family makes Dressing Cakes. It’s stuffing made into patties and fried in butter. Enjoy and don’t worry about the calorie count.

We buy an extra Thanksgiving meal (including an extra turkey) and

deliver it to a shelter/food kitchen after we eat an early dinner. Amy, mom of 4 in Ruckersville

My husband almost always works on Thanksgiving. I watch the Macy’s parade in the morning with my kids while getting my food ready for dinner. Then, we get out all of our Christmas stuff and decorate before we head for a late dinner at my in-laws’ house. Thanksgiving is the first day of Christmas time in our house!

Ever since I started creating my own cheesecake recipes a few years ago, our Thanksgiving tradition has been to stuff ourselves on pumpkin-spice and apple-pie cheesecakes! We don’t go through nearly as much turkey anymore. Gotta save room for dessert!

Every year we make hats. Nothing but construction paper and tape allowed. Everyone has to make one and wear it

for at least part of the dinner. Mom of 2, Cville

Because it’s hard to make the rounds on Thanksgiving, we would do a Thanksgiving breakfast at our home, with one side, and then travel to the other side of the family for dinner. Any excuse to have pumpkin waffles!
