Behold the Power of Cheese

Warm Biscuits Complete Any Family Meal

In my family any meal that is accompanied by homemade bread — of any variety — is a special meal. I’m not sure what it is. I can serve the exact same meal without bread and it falls flat. But, permeate the air with the scent of baked bread, throw a slice alongside the plate and watch ’em go at it! Of course, breads made by my bread machine, or ones that start with a mix, are

always preferred. I have to admit, I’m one of those people who devour entire baskets of rolls at restaurants. One of my all-time favorites is the cheesy, garlic-y biscuits they serve at a nearby restaurant. I nearly keeled over with delight when my mother-in-law scored me the recipe. Now I can make them at home! In fact, it’s become such a hit with my family that I even attempted to make

them during a blackout last winter. With no power and three feet of snow on the ground outside (and a hungry, restless crew inside!), I resorted to drastic measures. We fired up the wood stove, nice and hot, and I whipped up a batch of biscuit batter. I placed the biscuits on baking stones, covered them with a loose aluminum tent and set them on the stove. It took nearly two hours, but when they were finally done: They were absolutely

phenomenal. My homemade biscuits couldn’t melt Snowmageddon, but they sure did warm hearts and calm souls.

To cold water, add Bisquick and cheese, blending in a mixing bowl. Mix until dough

is firm. Using a small scoop, place the dough on a pan lined with baking paper. Bake at 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown. While they bake, combine the spread ingredients. Brush finished biscuits with the garlic spread and serve.
