HONORS TO TANDEM
Tandem Friends School seniors Matt Mahoney and Jeremy Boissevain were recognized as National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists. They join 16,000 students who earned the distinction out of 1.5 million high-school juniors. Also, the College Board announced its 2010 AP Scholar Awards, and 13 Tandem students were recognized. The awards were: AP Scholar (Leah Foley, Adriana Stephan, Aaron Taboada, Miranda Hogan, Hattie Nguyen, Mark Sullivan), AP Scholar with Honors (Will Grimshaw, Emma Perkinson) and AP Scholar with Distinction (Matt Mahoney, Stephanie Brown, Lydia Turner, Alex Goodhouse, Nora Studholme).
MONTICELLO HIGH MUSTANGS STAMPEDE TO VICTORY
This fall has seen a score of great games and close calls. But few matches top the October face-off between the Goochland High Bulldogs and Monticello High Mustangs. From the start, Goochland pushed ahead to an impressive 21-0 lead. But the Mustangs put on their game face and came back with a dramatic victory, winning 29-28. The rally was lead by running back Jesse Ayres, who carried the ball 44 times for a total of 254 yards and 3 TDs. Somewhere in those 254 yards, Ayres passed the 1,000 yard rushing mark for the season. As of press time, Monticello fell to 2-2 in Jefferson District play, while Goochland came back to a 2-2 in the Jefferson District play. Can Monticello parlay this win into a big season? Will the rally stay strong? Only time will tell.
