“I’ve done a lot of things in my life, you change as you get older and we are all guilty of getting a bit bored. I think it is fair to say that your business ideas change as you mature and so looking back at the dance record label I started many years ago [Fantasia] it now plays such a very little part in my current life... I was caught up on a thread in a scene that just exploded but my true passion is property, collecting and restoring.”
So rave culture faded but his devotion to crumbly masonry prevailed. His next enterprise was a property business; his development company, Perkins Andersen Wentworth, specialising in listed buildings. Past buys include Gosfield Hall in Essex and the Roundhouse at Cerney Wick, Wiltshire.
James had in fact just returned from an awards ceremony scooping three awards for
his contribution to the Roundhouse, two of which were the Rose Design Award and the Chairman’s Award, highly coveted for their recognition of the most outstanding and re-working of listed buildings.

“What attracted me to the build was that it was completely burnt out and essentially just standing in its raw original state.” Jame’s talent lies in sympathetically restoring a property to its original state whilst creating a unique design space and interior that reflects our more contemporary 21st century design ideals. “It’s about putting a sense of fun back into these houses, a sense of theatre and an opportunity for them to showcase their magnificence once more, as they were intended when first built.” Since James completed the project there have been over 800 enquires and 900 potential buyers.
