LETTER FROM THE EDITOR Dear Reader:


With the second issue of Dispatches International comes another series of articles tact-


fully covering underreported issues on five continents. Behind those stories, four new reporters have joined the staff to increase coverage in Tanzania, Bangladesh, and Canada. Another cohort of reporters – Indians and Moldavians among them – is currently being trained to write for the third issue. Such growth demonstrates the excitement that greeted the release of our first issue


and the launch of our website, www.DispatchesInternational.org. Since its introduction, the website has averaged over one thousand hits per month and has made our publication accessible to student journalists in dozens of countries. Although I am immensely pleased with this issue, and proud of our talented team of


reporters, Dispatches International is not content to rest on its laurels. We are currently planning another training conference to ensure the quality of our articles and to recruit new reporters from countries that we have yet to hear from. We also have plans in the works to begin producing regular, shorter pieces for our website that will not appear in the print publication. Our goals for the next issue are twofold: first, to take advantage of the new interest


in the publication and increase the number of countries we publish articles about; and second, to further hone the skills that allow our reporters to find stories readers probably won’t read about in other publications. None of this would be possible without the support of our subscribers. Te third goal


for the next issue is to better serve our subscribers by learning from the suggestions of our readers. For this reason, we have included the email addresses of our reporters at the end of each article. Our continued growth relies on our readership – so please, email us with suggestions and comments.
