A NEW REPORT from Forrester Research says the frontier of online retailing is going global. According to the “State of Retailing Online 2010: Key Metrics, Multichannel and Global Strate- gies Report,” conducted by Forrester for Shop.org, nearly three quarters of retailers surveyed are already sending merchandise abroad from their home country’s distribution center, with an additional 17 per- cent having an established foreign warehouse in place, MarketWatch reports. “International customers have visited U.S. retail websites for years,” says Fiona Swerdlow, Head of Research for Shop. “While still in the early stages, U.S. retail- ers are starting to monetize that traffi c by meeting global

consumer demand for their products and services, which in turn should help to bolster their bot om line.” Recent developments in technology have made it easier for retailers to eff ectively cross-sell and upsell online, the report notes. More than one-quarter (27 percent) of web retailers say they have seen increases in units per transaction and nearly half (47 percent) have experienced a liſt in their average order values. Forty- fi ve percent of retailers surveyed say they have seen increases in repeat cus- tomer rates. Nearly one-third of survey respondents say they have seen a decrease in their shopping cart abandonment rates. T e

Treasure Seekers Unite

AN ONLINE community of independent ecommerce retailers has launched several new services in a bid to become even more useful to its network of online mer- chants. T e improvements include a new website and an upgrade of its online marketplace. Treasure Seekers Unite is “A social network for buyers, sellers, and collec- tors of unique treasures,” says site manager and owner, Angie Gunter, who adds, “Most of our members are online sellers who have joined to connect and share tips with each other.” TSU has over 450 seller members, with another 1,500

nonseller participants. T e community off ers a lot to those who participate. “Members can post photos of their items for sale, start their own blog, join forum discussions, and connect with like minded sellers via our interest groups, says Gunter. “All content is fed to search engines, so the more a member participates the bet er their exposure to

the online world.” Gunter is enthusiastic about the recent site improvements. “T e most recent addition to our com- munity is the new version of Netcarnation Community Marketplace,” She says. Many sellers are familiar with the old version, the fi rst to accept listings via this new application. Sellers can import their recent listings from Bonanza (formerly Bonanzle), eBay, Etsy, Ecrater, and Zazzle. Any visitor can share these products with their Facebook, Twit er, or Google Buzz friends with a click of a but on,” she adds. Gunter, herself an online merchant, is busy migrat-

ing the community from tsusellersnetwork.com to treas- ureseekersunite.com. T e new URL is not only simpler, but off ers new features for buyers and sellers. Aside from a few premium services, Treasure Seekers Unite is free to join.
