PumpkinFest - continued from front page

“I was amazed that Logan sat still for almost an hour,” commented Ben Nadeau, after his son watched the entertainment. “Apparently, the magician and Judy Pancoast [on Sunday] were very good to keep his attention so long.” There were fast-paced karate demonstrations,

Dr. Fredenburg’s tractor pull on the grounds, and lots of things to do. Tequila Mockingbird took the stage and played in the cool of the evening with a wide variety of music from the ‘60s to present. Entertainment spanned both days with Judy

Pancaost, a singer and children’s entertainer, leading the children in yucky songs, and all the children’s favorites on Sunday. Music on Saturday was varied and entertaining. A.J. Latulippe and The Cat’s Pajamas played to a happy audience on Saturday at 1 p.m. “The drummer is 10 and the girl on keyboard is

13,” explained Latulippe. “They are really excited to be playing here.” Ruth Scruton of the Traveling Barnyard in Farmington brought her animals to the grounds.

She set up a pen with a gate so that young fairgoers could enter the pen and pet or feed the animals.

“Look, Mom,” squealed MacKenzie Martin

and Alexis Deeney in delight as all the animals surrounded them. The two were in the pen and surrounded by eager sheep and goats looking for a snack. The young animals seemed to enjoy the

interaction with the children as much as the children enjoyed getting to touch and see the animals. Parents watched from outside the pen with huge smiles on their faces. Many community organizations had booths, including Benson’s, Hudson Recycling, Zach’s Football Stadium Group, Republicans’ and Democrats’ booths, Nottingham West Lions, and more. There was lots of food, from the usual fried dough and candy apples to paninis, chili, apple crisp and ice cream, waffles on a stick, Belgium Fudge, kettle corn, fried veggies, and much more. “This year, we had over 85 crafters and vendors,” said D.J. Clement, Hudson Kiwanis chapter president. “And with the food vendors, non -profits, and sponsors, we have over 100 people registered to be here and have space to show their wares. The tough part is the weather wreaked havoc on Saturday, but we had over 3,000 people come through on Sunday. It was our

biggest and best event ever.” Hudson and Litchfield’s volunteer efforts really shone through with help from the Rotary Club. Boy Scouts, Key Club, Chamber of Commerce, Squire and Compass, and Cross Pointe Community Church added invaluable help to the Kiwanis crew. On Sunday, there was trick-or-treating for

children who wore their costumes from 2-4 p.m. “Trick-or-treating was a huge success,” noted

Fred Ramos, a Benson’s volunteer. “We brought two bags of candy and we ran out. The kids were

so cute.” And he swears he didn’t eat any of the candy. The question always comes up year after year to all the folks who volunteer and work tirelessly to make these local events a reality: “Are you going to do it again next year?” “With this being Keene’s last year, who knows—

maybe next year, we can break Hudson’s carved pumpkin record of 300,” commented event organizer Falzone. “We had so many volunteers helping, and groups adding their flair. There is such a huge opportunity to involve all the local

let’s see if we can top 300 carved pumpkins at next year’s event,” said Falzone.
