FACING THE FUNDRAISING CHALLENGE Creative Ways to Raise Those All Important Extra Funds

Calendar girls

With Christmas fast approaching, why not monopolise on the giving spirit and create some promotional items personal to your school that can be sold to parents and grandparents to raise funds. There are loads of ideas but some of the easiest to create are Christmas cards and calendars. You could showcase some of the children’s own work by running a competition for pupils to create images to be

featured or, for calendars, you could photograph all the pupils with a birthday in a particular month and use that as your image - you can even add key dates such as school holidays and PTA meetings. You can raise even more funds by selling advertising space to local businesses and there are probably lots of pupils’ family businesses that would be happy to advertise. Leigh Walsh from printing.com in Eccles explained “Calendars are one of our most popular Christmas products

as they are one of the most useful and can easily be used in fund-raising activities. They can be a lot of fun to create and, as they are available from around £1 each, are extremely cost-effective. “You don’t have to know anything about design as we have designers who are happy to help you create something special to make sure you raise as much money as possible. Christmas cards are always popular if they feature artwork by the children as parents love that kind of stuff. I always buy the ones created at my children’s school!” The options are endless when it comes to promotional merchandise, from wallplanners to bags, pens and even electronic pepper mill grinders. Effective fund-raising ideas can require some creative, out-the-box thinking but with a little effort the outcome can be something pleasantly out of the ordinary that brings the whole school community together.
