Gilbert’s 12K’s of Christmas fit for families
Celebrating health, fi tness and the joy of Christmas, Gilbert’s annual 12K’s of Christmas family event is held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sat., Dec. 11 at Freestone Park. Kids and pets are welcome at the event, which will feature the 1.2K Santa Sled Run walk or stroll, as well as a 6K and 12K along the Western Powerline Trail. Onsite race registration begins at 8 a.m. The 12K begins at 10 a.m., followed by the 6K at 10:06 a.m. and the 1.2K at 10:12 a.m.
Every participant receives a Santa hat, and a Christmas costume competition will be held, with prizes going to best Christmas-themed running outfi t, most Christmas spirit, best dressed pet and more. Awards will also be given to the top fi nishers in every age category. The fi rst 1,200 to register will receive socks with the 12K’s of Christmas logo. Christmas carolers will perform at the start and fi nish line and at every “K” along the route. Performers include Gilbert Christian School’s choir, Rancho Solano’s third- and fourth-grade strings and fourth- and fi fth-grade band, Life Link Christian Church’s choir, Redeemer Christian School’s junior and senior bell choir and Studio 3 Showstoppers. Pam Johnson State Farm Insurance Agency of Gilbert will sponsor the Caroling Award, presented to the caroling group or band that exhibits the most Christmas spirit, judged on their music, costumes, decoration and enthusiasm.
In addition, more than 40 Valley rescue groups will participate in Santa’s Pet Village, a pet adoption event featuring hundreds of animals looking for loving homes, from cats and dogs to rats and rabbits. Dogs for adoption include pure and mixed breeds of all varieties. A portion of proceeds will benefi t Maricopa County Animal Care and Control and Phoenix Animal Care Coalition. The event will also host a Christmas Bazaar offering a variety of holiday gift items
for sale.

Yoga class invites moonlight relaxation
Area residents are invited to relax and enjoy simple yoga under a full moon at Get Fit Full Moon Yoga from 7 to 8 p.m. Sat., Oct. 23, at the Freestone Park Amphitheater in Gilbert.
Check-in begins at 6:45 p.m. No experience with yoga is necessary, but all participants must be at least 16 years old.

Gilbert Days 5K, 1-Mile Fun Run registering
Registration is now open for the 26th Annual Gilbert Days 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run, taking place Fri., Nov. 19 at Freestone Park.
All ages are welcome to participate. Runners receive a T-shirt, participation ribbon, refreshments at the fi nish line and a chance to win post-race prize giveaways.
Mascots from family-friendly restaurants and businesses will take part in a Mascot Race to kick off the event at 4:30 p.m., followed by the 1-Mile Fun Run at 4:45 and the 5K starting at 4:55
Registration fees for those registering before 5 p.m. Wed., Nov. 10, are $10 for ages 12 years and younger, and $15 for ages 13 years and older. On-site race day registration will be available for $20 for ages 12 and younger and $30 for ages 13 and older.
