I’ve heard people wonder if I’m going to “pull a Brett Favre” and change my mind, and I’m just glad it’s not called “a Scott Niedermayer.” You can never say never, but if I were to make a bet on it, I would make a pretty big bet that I won’t.
People ask me what my favorite championship or my favorite accomplishment is, but I never really think of things that way. The most important thing to me is being thought of as a good teammate, a guy who thought of the team first, as opposed to a guy who won championships. I would hope that the team- mates I played with would say that about me, that I was a good teammate or a good friend. If they said that, that would be better than any championships I’ve won. That’s what I’d like to be remembered for.
What I remember about the goal against Detroit in Game 5 in 2007 was that it was a lucky goal. It was really a surreal thing because it got deflected and it was kind of a looping puck. I think it was Dominik Hasek in net and I could see that he didn’t know where the puck was. And I had time to think
