Our First Year

Writer’s note: The title references a book written by local author/football coach Marc Prindiville of Litchfield, and the book tells a story about three incredible young men that helped start a football program in a small farm community, according to Prindiville.

by Doug Robinson “Our first year, we were a start-up club team in the Independent League with only 32 players, and most of them had never put on a football helmet in their lives,” writes Campbell High School Football Coach Marc Prindiville. Originally voted down by the voters, the football team went on to play in the “2003 Independent Leagues’ State Championship (and) over the next six years we went to three semi-final games, and one state final championship game. During this time we have had more than ten All-State players from our division, a quarterback with over 5,000 all-purpose yards and three players that have been selected for the New Hampshire Shrine Football Team.”

While these statistics are amazing, one must remember that the total enrollment for Campbell High School was only 550 students. Coach Prindiville, in his book titled Our

First Year, weaves the story of how Campbell football glory was built upon the foundation of the leader skills of three specific individuals who played during that first year: Austin, Chris, and Brad. “In the following pages, I am not going to talk about wins and

losses, or coaching and plays. What I am going to do is to introduce you to three of those young men from that first year. These three young men – Brad, Chris and Austin could not be more different; they all have one great quality about them. One I am sure you will

figure out as you read their stories,” writes Coach Prindiville. Prindiville weaves the story of success of not only the individual contributions, but of commitments that go beyond the football field. Commitment, dedication, leadership, and individual values are built as a foundation by the three young athletes. Stories of continued mentorship, leadership, and involvement, as well as the values of commitment, are integrated into the story to make the reader understand how the Cougars have done what they have done. Readers of the Our First Year will learn that Cougar football leaders of that first year came to the gridiron with a purpose. While one student went on to serve our county in the military, another went on to teach high school in the Hooksett school system. The third athlete was stricken with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and continues to fight the fight, and he also continues to participate in the mentorship of Campbell High School football athletes. Our First Year can be purchased online at

www.publishamerica.com, as well as online at Barnes and Noble. All financial proceeds from the book will be donated to help fund Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Cancer Research at the Boston Children’ Hospital.

Governors Sportsmen’s Caucus

The Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation announced the formation of a bipartisan caucus of governors that will work to protect the interest of America’s hunters and anglers, and advance sound wildlife management policy and will facilitate communication and information exchange between participating offices in support of policies and regulations that promote and protect hunting and fishing. Governors in the Governors Sportsmen’s Caucus represent large outdoor constituencies that include many of America’s nearly 40 million hunters and anglers who contribute more than $70 billion annually to the U.S. economy.

“It’s part of our culture, our tradition, our economy,”

said Gov. Jim Douglas of Vermont. Gov. John Lynch is a member, and all sportsmen should thank him for participating. Goals include protecting and promoting the traditional privileges enjoyed by American citizens to hunt, fish, trap, and pursue outdoor activities, and to safeguard the integrity of user-pay trust funds, license revenues, and other dedicated funds contributed by hunters and anglers. We hope that we see these goals met and make sure that our elected officials support the objectives.

Church Representative Returns

from Zimbabwe Barbara Blue, a resident of Hudson, recently returned from a trip to Zimbabwe, where she represented the Community Church of Hudson. She traveled to the local church’s “sister church” in Bulanayo, Zimbabwe, with a delegation from the New England United Church of Christ. Shown here, she is displaying some of the handmade gifts the host church sent back to the Hudson church. Barbara will present pictures from this trip to Africa at a potluck luncheon on Sunday, October 17, following their 10 a.m. worship service. The public is invited to attend.
