As Paul Nulty from Light Bureau says, Autumn is a great time of year for lighting designers: ‘With nights drawing in people naturally spend more time in the 'night' environment. Whether internal or external, the need for good lighting is never more evident.’ And so in this issue we explore amenity lighting, as well as touch base with the controls sector.

We also get an update on the LED market, and hear several views on this technology. Many are still jumping on the LED bandwagon and specifying them for schemes, even though they may not necessarily be the best option. That’s not to say they aren’t suitable for mainstream lighting, as many projects demonstrate. As with anything, you need to filter through the cheap imports and look at the small print and analysis reports to get a true understanding of what they can offer.

Please recycle this magazine after reading.

Also on the menu this month we have a mixture of stunning projects. We start off with Light Bureau’s scheme for the new BUPA Wellness Clinic in London’s West End. The premises proved more of a challenge than your average site, as it is all below ground so there is no natural light. We also explore Whitegood’s relaxing lighting scheme at The Hotel Corte Valier, while Firefly Lighting Design jazzes up the interior of Red Fort Indian restaurant in Soho. Finally, Deltalight helps create the right look for the new Escape Lounge at Terminal 1, Manchester Airport.

Don’t forget to keep me updated with projects you work on, and if you have any news and views then please drop me an email.

Welcome to our second issue of A1 Lighting magazine! A big thank you to everyone who supported our first issue, and I hope you are all pleased with the magazine and find it an informative read, and a good source of contacts. We would also like to thank everyone who came to visit us on our stand at 100% Design, and it was great to meet up with many of you at PLASA and Decorex.

Welcome
