TRANSPORT Interview With the

tracking and tracing system – the ‘third pillar’ – a shipper can follow up the status of the deliveries. The carrier simply delivers a status

message in the system (on the load’s journey or

on the truck’s return). Examples of status messages are: traffic jam, delivery of the goods or damaged goods, etc. The shipper can use this type of information to make internal analysis, but also to inform his customer about the anticipated time of delivery. “A lot of data is sent between carriers and shippers and, based on these messages, we offer the possibility to the shipper to make in-depth analysis,” explained Pesti. “The shipper can make diagrams, tables, and so on, to gain better insight into how efficient a certain carrier is.”

With these benefits firmly in focus, Pesti is currently looking to further establish Transporeon’s presence in the UK market to help shippers and carriers in this territory benefit from the types of proven advantages Transporeon customers are leveraging in other territories.

Personal approach

Pesti reflects that what helps to make Transporeon so secure as a company is the fact that all five original founders of the business are still actively involved on a day- to-day basis. This advantage he says also makes decision-making process very fast and effective. In addition, Pesti made the point that Transporeon is able to connect a number of different IT systems – even within one organisation – in order for the shipper and carrier to better communicate with each other and support the end user in a more efficient manner. And Pesti stressed that Transporeon does not work in a standardised way; instead ensuring it can adapt its platform to the specific requirements of its shipper customers. “It’s this personal approach that makes us stand out,” he concluded. 

MANUFACTURING &LOGISTICS

IT October 2010 Three key objectives

Ontex identified three logistics improvement objectives with high return potential. Objective one was to improve transport order communi - cation to carriers. Ontex expressed the need to find a system to automate the exchange of information of transport orders

with their transport providers. Such a system should also allow reception confirmation of acceptance on rejection (with a reason) of the transport bookings.

The ultimate goal was to allow fast & efficient throughput of the logistic processes as well as a harmonised communication system towards all their carriers. The key require - ments were to achieve simple administration, fast ordering (>25 per cent of orders are received one day before loading) and to have one central system to monitor all transport orders.

Objective two was to improve loading/ unloading planning & efficiency. Ontex needed a system to manage the time windows for truck arrival in order to prepare goods upfront and in sequence of loading. The system would also allow Ontex to reduce waiting hours for trucks. The key requirements were to achieve full control of schedules by Ontex, and full carrier freedom to book within specified loading schedules. Objective three was to improve customer service level. Ontex needed a system to monitor statuses and relay alerts on transport delays or >>
