CivicFest comes to the Minneapolis Convention Center


s Minnesota takes center stage this summer for the Republican National Convention, citizens have the opportunity to experience and be a part of history in the making. CivicFest, a non-partisan celebration of American and Minnesota political and statehood history will transform the Minneapolis Convention Center into an entertaining and informative showcase of American history Aug. 29 – Sept. 4, 2008. Never again will all of these exhibits, artifacts and memorabilia be found under one roof.

More than 30 exhibits, including a 60- by 20- foot model White House, a full-scale Air Force One replica, former first ladies’ gowns, presidential limos and a life-size Oval Office will be on display. Backstage Tours 45-minutes Take a look at what goes on behind the scenes at the Guthrie. You’ll discover the stunning and expanded features of our state-of-the-art facility and learn how we take our plays from script to stage, including the many intriguing steps in between. On the tour, you’ll visit our various production departments, including the shops where costumes, sets and props are expertly crafted by talented artisans.


Self-guided Audio Tours


Narrated by Joe Dowling and familiar Guthrie actors, this fascinating experience will tell you about our theater’s history and the building’s design, highlighting many points of interest.


Architectural Tours 75-minutes


Architectural tours of the Guthrie focus on the history of the project, the site and its neighborhood and technical information about specific features of the building. Devised by Leslie Van Duzer, associate professor in the School of Architecture at the University of Minnesota, these private tours can be scheduled with advance reservation.
